From the Marine Corps to the leash.

After serving in the Marine Corps, Nathan was searching for his purpose when he was invited to attend a dog training school in Cleveland, Ohio. The decision to drop everything and attend would forever change the trajectory of his life.

Nathan became a certified trainer that specialized in behavior modification and basic obedience. In his first 5 years Nathan had trained over 200 dogs with his influence extending well beyond, as he began training his own team of trainers across multiple states.

In 2021 Nathan took a hiatus away from training to focus on growing his family and his skills. Nathan returned to his education at Middle Tennessee State University, while also joining the Tennessee Army National Guard, where he has since been commissioned as an Engineer Officer.

Most importantly Nathan’s family grew abundantly. Nathan is a loving husband and father to three sons, one daughter, and three dogs.

Nathan’s return to professional training was accompanied by personal growth and experiences that have honed his ability to deliver a rewarding experience for all involved.

The origin story

Hershey, Bear, and Kane.

Nathan’s love for dogs began at an early age. His first dog “Hershey,” his family’s brindle Akita, shaped his passion for animals. Hershey had her first litter of puppies when Nathan was 6 years old. Nathan loved those puppies as much as he loved their mama. His parents had to pry every puppy from his arms when it came time to send them home with their new families. This became a trend for Nathan over the years, as he continually negotiated his way to bringing home new additions. Nathan’s first exposure to dangerous dog behavior came from their second Akita “Bear”. Bear was a fearful Akita with multiple biting incidences that eventually led to his removal from the home. One question remained in Nathan’s mind for years following this heartbreaking experience. “Why couldn’t we find a trainer that was willing to help Bear and our family.”

This burning question is what founded Nathan’s desire to find a solution for dog owners of all breeds, all ages, all temperaments. Nathan found the answer to what he was looking for in 2015 when he began training under the tutelage of a Master Trainer with nearly 40 years of experience. “Balance” was the answer. In a world where we love our pets to death we needed “Balance.” Nathan learned that balance coupled with consistency and effective communication gave the pups and the owner the confidence to progress through nearly any behavioral and/or obedience challenge.

Our namesake comes from “Kane”, Nathan’s German Shepherd. Kane has shared this entire training journey with Nathan and now spends most of his time being loved on by his kiddos.
